HandyLab, Inc. Announces the Release of Jaguar Automated PCR System
ANN ARBOR, MI - HandyLab, Inc., a developer of novel molecular diagnostic testing products, announces the release of the Jaguar Automated PCR System. This real time PCR System integrates sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction, and microfluidic amplification and detection into a single instrument. Two to twently-four tests can be run in 45 to 90 minutes from a raw patient sample.

The Jaguar Automated PCR System provides a solution for today's laboratory challenges: labor, training, 24/7 results and more. HandyLab's Jaguar System delivers a simplified molecular testing process by automatically performing all real time PCR processes,
while the unique microfluidic technology essentially eliminates the risk of amplified PCR contamination. According to Mark Powelson, Vice President, Sales and Marketing,
"Jaguar will provide 'TRUE AUTOMATION' for laboratories wanting to streamline their Laboratory Developed Tests and it is anticipated the reduction in time-to-result that
Jaguar provides will improve the clinical decision making process."

About HandyLab
HandyLab is dedicated to the development, manufacture and sale of novel molecular diagnostic products based on patented and proprietary microfluidic, miniaturized real-time PCR and nucleic acid extraction technologies.

HandyLab, Inc. to Partner with Nanogen, Inc.
SAN DIEGO - Nanogen, Inc. (Nasdaq: NGEN), developer of in vitro diagnostic products, announced that it has been awarded a new $10.4 million, two-year contract from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop a multi-analyte molecular diagnostic assay for Influenza. The molecular diagnostic test will be developed in partnership with the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and HandyLab, Inc. of Ann Arbor, MI. The test will be significantly more sensitive than current rapid flu tests and is expected to be conducted in less than half the time it takes to run current molecular tests. These tests are intended as a key component of the CDC's two-pronged approach to quickly identify and respond to a potential flu pandemic.

The Nanogen proposal to the CDC included the use of Nanogen's proprietary MGB probe technology for real time PCR and anticipates the use of off-the-shelf instrumentation for sample handling and detection, including the HandyLab Raider system, a microfluidic
real time PCR technology, which will significantly shorten time to result.

“Our collaboration with Nanogen on this project validates Raider's performance for microfluidic real-time PCR technology” said Mark Powelson, HandyLab's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, “Our technology contribution to this project is anticipated to redefine the way respiratory testing is done.”
